This week, we will be studying Matthew 16:13–20 and focusing on the truth that we are foundational in carrying out the Gospel message.

Read Matthew 16:17–18 and discuss 1–2 of these questions:

• Who do you think people at your school would say Jesus is?

• Why was Simon so bold as to answer Jesus’ question so clearly?

• What would your answer to Jesus’ question be?

Read Matthew 16:13–16 and discuss 1–2 of these questions:

• Why is the name Peter significant?

• How does Simon’s name change to Peter refocus his life?

• How could our lives be focused on being "living stones," pointing people to Jesus as the Son of God?

Read Matthew 16:18–20 and discuss 1–2 of these questions:

• What does it mean that the Church is built on the solid rock of Jesus as the Son of God?

• Why was it important for the disciples to keep quiet about his identity?

• Who will you tell this week that Jesus is the Son of God and Savior of the world?

APPLY IT

Jesus, the Son of God and Messiah, has sent us out like Peter to be "living stones" pointing to Jesus every day. How will you be a "living stone" this week to point people to Jesus?
