Each of the boys was assigned their own individual horse, a process our ranch hands take very seriously to ensure the right match. It was incredible to see how these animals helped break down the “walls” some of the boys had built to keep others out. Big smiles and lots of chatter started to fill the air, creating a warm and open atmosphere. This also gave our staff opportunities for deeper conversations between riding lessons.
We ended the day with our annual trip to Culver’s, as the camp store is closed on Sundays. We even took some extra time to search local fields for whitetail deer, and we found quite a few!
Back at camp, Mr. Patrick taught the boys how to build a proper fire and use a flint-and-steel. Each boy practiced these skills, essential for starting their stoves and fires on the trail this weekend. Once we had a good fire going, Mr. Travis shared his testimony. The boys listened intently as Travis spoke about his own struggles and experiences. Tired from the day’s activities, they went straight to bed without needing any reminders.
The next morning, the boys were up, dressed, and ready for morning devotions without any prompting. Yesterday, we discussed who God is, and today we focused on God as the creator of all things. The boys learned that God speaks to us in four different ways: through the Bible, through prayer, through other people, and through the circumstances around us.
Today, the boys are working in the barn, feeding, brushing, and tacking the horses. This afternoon, they will try their hand at archery and tomahawk throwing.
After their time at the horse barn. The boys fed and watered the horses and took care of the petting farm. They fed and watered, Annie, the pig, and fed milk to all the goats.
Please keep our staff in your prayers as they continue to build relationships, break down barriers, and engage in deeper conversations. Trust is essential but not always easy to build quickly.
Thank you for supporting our mission and these incredible boys. Stay tuned for more updates from Remembrance Ranch!
