FAMILY ADVOCATE

Position Description:

Title: Family Advocate
Reports To: Program Manager
Status: Part time Paid

Goals

The Family Advocate will further the mission of Remembrance Ranch by providing quality mentoring, and support to our teens and their families in the months after their summer camp experience; seek opportunity for significant spiritual impact and growth for teens and their families; to partner with program staff in leadership and supervision to help devise effective solutions for any issues families may be experiencing; to welcome teens and their families each year and empower them as members of the Remembrance Ranch Family; to assist with any behavior support issues and to interact with other families within our philosophy of intentional programming.

 

Job Responsibilities – General

  • Practice self-conduct in such a way that seeks to glorify God in all you say and do

  •  Practice respect towards full-time staff, fellow summer staff, volunteers, and teens whether the individual is present or not

  • Cultivate a willing and servant-like attitude of humility toward serving our teens, and their families

  • Be teachable and humble, willing to learn

  • Act in a professional manner as a role model for all teens, volunteers, and fellow staff

  • Be fully aware of all safety and emergency procedures, and execute procedures when required including communicating safety rules to teens and guests and enforcing them

  • Be prepared to serve Remembrance Ranch in areas outside of the specific responsibilities of your position as the need arises

  • Seek to anticipate the needs of teens, and volunteers and meet those needs to the best of your ability

  • Attend and participate in all trainings, meetings, devotions, and planning sessions

  • Attend and participate in a minimum of 8 follow up events within the 12-month life transforming experience

  • Spur fellow staff members on towards Christ, but not at the expense of the families we are ministering to

  • Integrate and support volunteers at camp and provide them with training as needed

  • Participate in required evening ministry opportunities (Teen events, Bible Studies)

  • Nurture own spiritual nourishment through prayer and time in the word

  • Help maintain a positive community and work environment

  • Practice Biblical conflict resolution

  • Exemplify Remembrance Ranch rules and reinforce them with teens and their families

 

Job Responsibilities – Specific

  • Responsible for scheduling and maintaining monthly aftercare meetings in the home and in school
  • Responsible for establishing contact with teens school to set up school meeting
  • Give updates on any current family issues as they arise
  • Record and document all interactions with teens and their families within 48 hours of contact
  • Communicate all incidents to the Program Manager and/or other necessary team members.
  • Supervise teens and family’s behavior while in the home or school
  • Be available to help communicate upcoming events to families and teens
  • Attend all required staff meetings.
  • Participate in any continued educational trainings
  • Maintain patience and quality “bedside manner’ necessary to work with teens and their families
  • Be available to assist with Initial assessments of teens and families prior to program enrollment

 

Qualifications

  • Strong, maturing faith in and relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Passion for the Remembrance Ranch mission of being a ministry through which God is transforming lives into the image of Christ
  • Must have a teachable attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Must hold a current and valid driver’s license
  • Must pass MSP ICHAT background check
  • Must pass Central Registry for Abuse and Neglect search
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Possess basic computer skills
  • Have good communication skills
  • A desire to work with teens, and families

 

Special Conditions

Accommodations will be provided for the duration of camp and meals will be provided while camp is in session.

 

Essential Functions

Remembrance Ranch Family Advocate will be expected to:

  • Be able to identify emergency situations, as they may arise in a home.
  • Possess the flexibility in schedule to reschedule and connect with families and teens during their respected months
  • Adhere to documentation procedures
  • Family Advocate is deemed a mandated reporter
  • Possess the ability to assist in removing any obstacles from a teens pathway to success as defined by the family’s goal plan.
  • If attending camp: Be able to demonstrate or participate in camp activities as they supervise and instruct campers: this will require the ability to walk, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and stand.
