An Eventful Day of Firsts

Saturday was a day of adventure and unexpected “firsts” at Remembrance Ranch, demonstrating our commitment to the safety and well-being of our boys while creating unforgettable memories.

When the boys went to bed on Friday night, a significant thunderstorm was showing on the radar. Always prioritizing the teens’ safety, the staff had a plan in place. We woke up early to beat the thunderstorm and flash flood warning. The boys hiked hard on the final leg of the trail and finished around 10 am, just as the initial rain hit. We quickly set up tents at Seaton Creek before the downpour. The staff then got the boys into the van and headed to a pavilion for lunch.

Then, in a surprising twist, we went to the movies! Yes, you read that right! Given the dangers associated with the impending storm, it was best to get the teens out of the forest. The boys enjoyed a fun and relaxing break at the theater, a first for Remembrance Ranch during a trail hike.

After the movie, we visited the DNR nature building and used their pavilion for our final devotions. This reflective time allowed the boys to absorb the day’s lessons and experiences. Following devotions, we had a delicious pizza dinner.

By this time, the storm had passed, and we traveled back to the campsite for a cozy evening by the fire. The boys shared stories and enjoyed s’mores, capping off an eventful day with warmth and camaraderie.

This day of firsts showcased the flexibility and dedication of our staff and the resilience and adaptability of our boys. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for Remembrance Ranch!
