Today is the day! Vivienne, please know that you are surrounded by prayers as you begin this adventure. I pray that you will feel God’s presence in every moment–feeling anxious, doubting this trip, excited about the journey, worrying about your family at home.
In the first chapter of Joshua, God speaks with Joshua about fear and worry as he faces new challenges. I like the Message translation best: “Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.” (Joshua 1:9). My family and I will be praying these words over you this week.

2:08 pm, Day 1: You just left in the red van and I miss you already. I know this is gonna be a good experience for you and we will enjoy the rest of the summer together when you get back. In the meantime, make sure you enjoy your time away from mom and dad, savor every minute because when you get back you’ll be smothered until you’ll be begging to go back to the ranch. (By me too I guess). Stay safe and live it up, I love you 3000.

Reading all of your comments from camp yesterday made me smile…especially the part about the S’MORES. That’s always the highlight of camping/adventure for my kids too. Today, I pray for a calm spirit as you do so many amazing things at camp. If anxieties and worries creep in, I hope you settle yourself into God’s love and protection and remember that He has your family covered too.
One of my favorite verses comes from Psalm 91. In fact, I wear a pendant with a feather on it to remind me of these words: “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.” Perhaps this verse will give you an extra dose of encouragement this week.

Day 2: Mom and dad haven’t been home all day and it makes me miss having someone else here. I have resorted to having full on conversations with Baby and he says he’s really happy that you made friends and is excited for all the stories you’re gonna tell when you get back. We are both genuinely proud that you’re enjoying yourself and hope it continues. (He also said that he peed on your squishmallow and is sorry)

We love you, stay safe 🐕🐾❤️

    Good morning Vivienne,
I just looked through all the amazing photos of the climbing wall adventures. I don’t know how you feel about heights but tackling a wall like that can be intense! I hope that you were able to meet your goals through that challenge. This morning I prayed over you and the whole crew for physical safety. That as you spend time at camp and then head out on the trail, you are surrounded with protection and that you (and every camper and leader) remain healthy and free from injury.
Our family has four kiddos in it and yesterday our 3 teenage sons all left for trips (2 on a service trip and one to camp). As we sent them off I told them that I hoped for several things for them: that they would learn a lot, that they would connect deeply with others there, that they would find opportunities to serve those around them, and that they would grow closer to God. I hope for those same things for you in these coming days.
I hope it is a wonderful day for you and I look forward to seeing the next update.

Yesterday looks like it was a busy but fun day. I’m eager to hear more about your horsemanship experiences today. I think it’s great that you are trying out so many things from archery to horses. So many experiences at once can feel really challenging and I hope you are staying encouraged. If the worries or doubts creep in, perhaps this verse will bring some comfort: “For nothing is impossible with God.” I have that one framed at home because I need to be reminded at times that no matter what I am facing, I’m not doing it alone. I hope you cool off several times in the lake as today is going to be a scorcher!

Day 4(?): I really miss you and hope I wasn’t too late. Being here with mom and dad is very lonely when we are minus one person. I see you are having so much fun doing tubing and hope you didn’t freak out too much if a seaweed touched your foot. (That’s what I’d do in a lake/pond) Though you’re a lot braver than I am! So I’m sure you’re fine. Here’s to making it (almost) halfway.

    Reply
    • Vivienne

No you weren’t too late no worries, I just got out of the shower. I do not freak out about seaweed unless it’s directly hit at my face. I love you Jamie I miss you as well. Today I broke a ton of my limits and went on the zip line. Sleep well.:)

I LOVED reading that you took on the zipline. Stepping off and trusting the equipment/staff can be really tough! From the pic, floating on the river looked incredible and a perfect way to spend such a toasty day. Also great to read that time with Beau went well with no wipeouts.
As your time at camp begins to wind down and you prepare to head out on the trail, please know that so many people are praying for you (beyond the six people in this family!). We pray for calm spirits, strong bodies, and amazing connections with God.

Day 5: I hear that today is your last day before your hike, I am a little worried for you but also incredibly proud. I talk about you a lot at work and I have a few of my work friends buzzing and asking for updates every morning. They’re all really proud and always say that you must be having so much fun, so it must be so.

    I am not sure if you’re gonna be able to reply or read these from then on, but just in case I’ll leave you with this;
As your older sister you know our relationship wasn’t always the best. I have seen you grow from a (slightly annoying) toddler that would rip the posters from my door to a beautiful young lady that is becoming her own person. Although it’s been strained I’ve loved seeing you grow and am so proud of the beautiful heart you have. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about how you’re the kindest little soul I’ve had the pleasure of encountering. This is something that I have never done and it’s genuinely an accomplishment you should look back on fondly with hindsight. It may seem tough but you are much stronger than I am, and I know you can do it (and also find a way to make it really fun.) We all miss you but we will see you soon, hopefully with many more stories to tell too.

I love you miss weeta, stay safe.

p.s. – remember, bears are a lot friendlier looking than they actually are. They’re kinda mean, so don’t try it.

Vivienne, it’s okay and understandable to be afraid of the hiking portion. It’s WAY outside most of our comfort zones.
I’ve done similar trips several times (as a camper and as a leader) and each one was really amazing. You will surprise yourself with what you can do! Embrace the uniqueness of this trip and the time out there. Allow yourself to rely on the rest of the team, accept their encouragement, and be encouraged by them too. I hope that you feel God’s presence in His amazing creation.

Vivienne, my family and I just watched the video of you and the whole crew coming off the trail. What a delight it was to see that moment! How amazing are you? You did such a challenging thing and in the heat and with extra complications thrown in. As you rest your aching feet, sore hips, and tired back, give yourself time to reflect on what you just did. It’s my hope that you felt God’s strength when you were weary and His confidence when you questioned if you could take another step, much less another thousand. I look forward to hearing more about it and am so excited for you as you wrap up this time away.
